Israni Baru shines again; India reaches the quarter-finals of the Uber Cup Achi-News

Guwahati: The Indian women’s badminton team secured their place in the quarter-finals of the 2024 BWF Thomas and Uber Cup with a resounding 4-1 win over Singapore in their Group A clash held in Chengdu, China on Sunday, April 28. Ashmita Khalia’s loss in the first game, Israni Baru completed the turnaround by winning her game to give India a 2-1 lead.

After a 4-1 win over Canada in their opening group match, India faced an early setback as Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min beat Chaliha 21-15, 21-18 in the first singles match.

However, the Indian team quickly bounced back as national champions Priya Kunjengbam and Shruti Mishra won the doubles rubber, beating Xiao An Heng and Yu Jia Jin 21-15, 21-16. This victory leveled the score and set the stage for a remarkable comeback by the Indian team.

Barua then put India ahead by defeating Insira Khan 21-13, 21-16 in just 31 minutes. The Indian dominance continued as former junior national champions Simran Singhi and Ritika Thakkar secured a comprehensive 21-8, 21-11 victory over Yi Ting Elsa Lai and Michelle Zahn in the second doubles match, sealing the tie for India.

Anmol Harab maintained her unbeaten record in the third and final singles with a solid 21-15, 21-13 victory over Lee Shin Yi Meegan, which added to India’s urgent victory.

With this win, India earned a place in the quarter-finals. They will now face the mighty Chinese side in their final group meeting on Tuesday, looking to continue their winning momentum.
