Ireland, Spain and Norway expressed hope that other Western countries would follow suit and recognize Palestine as an independent state. “The Norwegian government has decided to recognize Palestine as an independent state,” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Storr said in a statement on Wednesday. Norway will officially recognize Palestine as a state on May 28.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said: “This step was taken to ensure a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. We hope that other Western countries will follow suit in their decision to recognize us. Because if we are in large numbers, it will be possible to impose a ceasefire in Gaza. It will be possible to release the prisoners in Hamas”. Meanwhile, at a press conference in Dublin, he announced the recognition of Palestine as an independent state. There he said, “Ireland wants the citizens of Palestine-Israel to live safely and peacefully with their neighbors.”
On the other hand, Israel expressed anger after the decision of Ireland, Spain and Norway to recognize Palestine as an independent state. Foreign Minister Israel Katz has already ordered the immediate return of the Israeli ambassadors from these three countries.
