Delhi Capitals registered their third win in the ongoing IPL 2024 season with a resounding win over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

DC bundled out GT for a total of 89 runs and chased down the target in 8.5 overs with 67 deliveries and 6 wickets to spare.

The win also marked the sixth fastest ever run-out in the history of the cash-rich tournament as the capital club improved on KKR’s successful run of 94 runs in 10 overs against RCB in the year 2021.

Mumbai Indians became the fastest run-scorer in the history of the tournament as they obliterated the 68-run target set by KKR in just 5.2 overs in the 2008 edition of the T20 extravaganza.

The now defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala unit holds the record for the second fastest as they reached their target of 98 runs in just 7.2 overs against Rajasthan Royals in 2011. Punjab Kings had chased down 68 runs in 7.5 an over against DC in the year 2017 is third on the list followed by SRH’s chase of 69 runs against RCB in 2022.

RCB chased down the target of 89 runs in just 8.1 overs against Punjab in 2018, which ranks as the fifth fastest chase ever in IPL.

Delhi catcher Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to field first against GT on the day as the Gujarat batsmen fell like nine pins. Rashid Khan was the lone keeper for the 2022 title winners with a knock of 31 runs off 24 deliveries. Sai Sudharsan and Rahul Tewatia chipped in with contributions of 12 and 10 runs respectively while the rest of the GT unit fell for single digit scores.

Mukesh Kumar starred for DC with the ball as he picked a three-wicket haul while Ishant Sharam and Tristan Stubbs took 2 wickets each, as Axar Patel and Khaleel Ahmed finished with a wicket to their names.

DC opener Jake Fraser-McGurk started in sensational fashion as he got off the mark with a maximum during his 10-ball-20 run knock before departing. Prithvi Shaw went cheap for 7 runs, but Abhishek Porel and Shai Hope added 15 and 19 runs before Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten contribution of 16 runs and Sumit Kumar’s unbeaten run from 9 overs took Delhi over the finish line in just 8.5 overs .
