The data from August 2023 to March 2024 was presented to the investigative committee regarding the investigation of the wheat import scandal.
Sources say that a briefing was given to the investigative committee according to which wheat was imported from other countries including Russia and Ukraine, the list of importers was also presented to the committee.
According to the sources, the prime minister is also informed about the wheat import investigation, the secretary of the cabinet division and the food secretary have been informed about the investigation so far.
The briefing said that wheat worth Rs 330 billion was imported from August 2023 to March 2024. 13 lakh tonnes of wheat were found contaminated, the PDM government suspended the decision on wheat import in July 2023.
2.8 lakh tonnes of imported wheat at a cost of 250 billion anchors during the retention period. In the present government, 7 lakh tonnes of imported wheat costing 80 billion reached Pakistan.
The committee was informed that 1 billion 100 million dollars went out of Pakistan to import wheat, 4.5 lakh 25 thousand tons of wheat will be imported in October 2024, 5 lakh tons of wheat will be imported in November 2023, 3.5 lakh 35 thousand tons of wheat. of wheat will be imported in December 2023.
It was also stated in the briefing that 7 million tons of wheat will be imported in January 2024, 8.5 million tons of wheat will be imported in February 2024, 70 ships of wheat will be imported from 6 countries, the first ship arrived in Pakistan on September 20 last year and the last ship arrived in Pakistan on March 31, 2024.
The Finance Ministry has also permitted the import of 10 lakh metric tonnes through the private sector.
