Led by captain Rohit Sharma, the 15-member squad features the addition of Virat Kohli, thus marking a major boost to the team’s line-up.

The national selection committee headed by Ajit Agrakar announced the squad on Tuesday, April 30.

Among the highlights of the squad announcement is Yuzvendra Chahal’s comeback and Shivam Dube’s first World Cup call-up, injecting fresh energy into India’s campaign.

Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant have been named as wicketkeepers, while Hardik Pandya takes on the role of vice-captain.

The spin department sees a boost with the inclusion of Axar Patel, who completes the trio of Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Chahal.

In the pace department, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the charge, supported by Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Siraj.

In addition, the BCCI has revealed a list of four reserve players – Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Abhish Khan and Khal Ahmed – who will accompany the team. The first group of players is scheduled to leave for the US on May 21st.

One of the key decisions involved picking the wicketkeeper-batsman position, with Samson earning his place alongside Pant, impressing with his performances for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. This decision struck off contestants like KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan.

The team welcomes back hard batsman Dub, who showcased his ability in the IPL, and experienced leg spinner Chahal, who added depth and versatility to the squad. However, notable exceptions include Gill and Rinku Singh, who find themselves among the reserved.

Despite the challenges, India are gearing up for the T20 World Cup, which begins on June 2, with their opening match against Ireland on June 5 in New York.

The team aims to overcome obstacles and strive for success in this highly anticipated tournament.
