Kolkata: Indian Railways is operating a record-breaking 9,111 special train journeys during the summer to ensure passenger convenience and manage the expected surge in summer travel demand. That marked a significant increase over the summer of 2023, where a total of 6,369 trips were organised. This means an increase of 2742 journeys, which shows the commitment of Indian Railways to meet the needs of passengers effectively.

This summer North East Frontier Railway will operate 88 additional train journeys to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for passengers. These additional trains are perfectly designed to ensure smooth travel on major railway routes as well as connecting important destinations across the country.

All the zonal railways spread across India are ready to run extra trains to cope with the summer travel rush from various states. Summer special trains are operated under North East Frontier Railway from Assam, Tripura and parts of West Bengal and Bihar to major destinations across the country.

The planning and implementation of additional trains is an ongoing process, which includes taking input from all communication channels such as media reports, social media platforms, railway integrated helpline number 139 along with details of waiting list passengers in the PRS system to assess the demand for trains on a specific route. in

Based on this requirement, the number of trains and the number of journeys will be increased. Neither the number of trains nor the number of journeys operated by additional trains is fixed for the whole season and is also ensured at railway stations for passengers during the summer. Extensive crowd control measures are in place at all major and important railway stations.

Senior officers are present at all these stations to monitor all activities to control the crowd in an appropriate manner. RPF personnel are stationed at train exit stations to ensure queuing for entry to General Class coaches.

Skilled RPF personnel are stationed in CCTV control rooms to closely monitor crowded areas and provide real-time assistance to passengers. Railway Garbage Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are deployed at foot over bridges to manage the crowd in an orderly manner to avoid stampede situations during peak hours.
