Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday that if the Congress election manifesto is implemented, the Indian economy, which is currently among the top five economies in the world, will be back among the fragile five. He claimed that the Congress’s election manifesto was ‘like the Muslim League’s document’ and it was the BJP’s duty to question it.
Sitharaman’s response came amid Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comment about an “economic survey and x-ray of society” and the BJP’s claim that the Congress plans to redistribute wealth if voted to power. The Finance Minister said that this is the worst manifesto, which is not in the interest of the nation.
In a meeting with select journalists in Pune, the finance minister asked whether the Congress had made the necessary financial planning to fulfill the promises detailed in its manifesto. She asked, I know they’re not getting into power, but I’d still like to ask, has Congress done its homework on the spending required to keep the manifesto promises?
