The Indian Coast Guard on Sunday seized an Iranian fishing boat off the coast of Koilandi in Kozhikode district. The Coast Guard said six fishermen, who had come from Kanyakumari in neighboring Tamil Nadu, were arrested from the boat.

When the boat reached Kuilandi, it ran out of fuel, a police officer said. All the arrested fishermen left Kanyakumari for Iran to fish about a year and a half ago. According to preliminary information, they returned to Kanyakumari after escaping from Iran. According to the fishermen’s statement, they were not paid any salary. Besides, she also faced physical harassment from the employer. So they ran away and came here in the same boat where they were fishing. The boat is now in the custody of the Coast Guard and all six fishermen have been taken to Kochi. (agency)
