Her amazing performance in "Shameless," Directed and written by the Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Boyanov, it won over the jury. The film tells the fascinating story of Renuka, a woman who escapes from a brothel in Delhi after killing a policeman, with Umara Shetty playing her love interest.

Talking to the media, Sengupta shared her excitement after learning about the selection of the film. “I got the news when Constantine sent me a link to the press conference announcing the official selections at Cannes. When they announced the name of our film, I jumped out of my chair in ecstasy!”

In addition to Anasuya’s breakthrough win, two Indian films made remarkable impressions in the La Cinef selection. "Sunflowers were the first to know," A Kannada short film directed by Chidananda Naik, secured the top spot.

The film is inspired by a popular folk tale and was shot over four days. Naik expressed his desire to bring Indian myths and folktales to life on screen, stating, “My dream has been to turn the myths and folktales of India into cinematic experiences, and with such a wealth of stories waiting to be told, this short film feels like the perfect place to start.”

"in Anyhud," Directed by Mansi Mahashwari from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, won third place. The film, inspired by an incident from Maheshwari’s childhood, explores the complexities of truth and deception.

She revealed that the story stemmed from a lie her mother told her about an appendectomy, saying, “I’ve always struggled with understanding why people feel the need to lie, and the consequences of it. The story of my appendectomy was the perfect choice to explore that.”

The festival also featured a special screening of Shyam Bengal’s classic film "winding," Almost 48 years after its publication. Several Indian celebrities and influencers graced the red carpet.
