Urdu is not only our national language but also one of the main languages of global communication. According to the report of some international organizations, Urdu is currently the second largest language in the world in terms of the number of speakers, while it has gained the status of the largest language that is spoken and understood in the different capitals of the world because of its spread. . After British colonial rule in united India, in the two major subjects adopted to maintain separate identity of Muslims, along with cultural identity and discrimination of Muslims, Urdu language was also given equal status in the struggle. Thus, where the late Sir Syed Ahmed Khan presented the Muslim civilization and culture as a permanent civilization separate from the Hindu civilization and culture under the title of two nation theory, there was also a struggle to protect and promote Urdu against the promotion he fought the Hindi language, and gave continuous effort to maintain the identity and status of a Muslim title. After that, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, Maulvi Abdul Haq and other leaders played an active role for the promotion and protection of Urdu. Therefore, the foundation of the ideology of Pakistan is a separate Muslim civilization as well as Urdu language.
This is the reason why the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah declared Urdu as the national language after the establishment of Pakistan. But although Urdu is a living language, diverse and rich in literature and knowledge, our institution has adopted an attitude of neglect and the general environment of educational institutions as well as office and judicial circles is at the mercy of English. The result that is before us today, just as each language has its own culture and culture, in the same way, Englishness with all its psychology spreads its feet in every way in the presence of the English language .
There is no denying the importance of English for international communication and global needs, but it has been more or less replaced by the national language, a result of which we are suffering in the form of intellectual and cultural distraction at a national level. The Supreme Court even had to take notice of this and direct the federal and provincial governments to take steps to give Urdu its rightful place and role as per the constitution. Regarding the promotion and implementation of Urdu language in the office and judicial sectors, and the instructions of the Supreme Court for the practical promotion of Urdu in national institutions, there is no serious environment for their visible implementation in government circles. It is felt that the first basis of Pakistan’s ideology, ie discrimination and protection of Muslim civilization and culture, as well as its second basis, ie Urdu language, is also tied to the web of interests of the world organization and the national organization in its shadow. Although the more tragic thing is that now he has no lawyer like Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Maulvi Abdul Haq, and Dr. Syed Abdullah who can fight his case and there are less among the elements who understand the need and importance of Urdu. At least it could play the role of a bridge.
I was reading yesterday in an edition of the three-day “Dawat” published from Delhi, a report on the work being done to promote the Urdu language in India by the “National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language” and established by the Government of India.’ in the form of an advertisement by Professor Syed Ali Karim, Director of the said National Council, which details the activities of the Council for the promotion of the Urdu language not only in India but also in the whole world. If these activities are divided into different spheres, they come to about a dozen and a half, two or four of which can be mentioned in this column. For example, our readers may also refer to:
