IMF proposal to impose GST on electricity, gas tariff, petroleum Achi-News

ISLAMABAD (News Desk) The International Monetary Fund (IMF) proposed to the government of Pakistan to impose 18% GST on petroleum along with the increase in electricity and gas tariffs, according to sources, discussions on a new loan program between Pakistan and the IMF today, the IMF mission may leave tonight without a staff-level agreement

Before the staff level agreement, Pakistan will have to follow a number of preconditions After the new budget, there is a possibility of negotiating a new bailout package with the IMF. The government has started considering a carbon levy instead of GST on petroleum next year, while the implementation of new taxes, an increase in electricity and gas tariffs and reforms in the energy sector are among the conditions.

The government is already charging 60 rupees per liter of petroleum levy on petroleum products, it is estimated that the next financial year will be Rs next year, the revenue from petroleum levy will reach a thousand of 215 billion rupees.
