I got this book after completing IAS and getting selected
Sunil Patnaik is the second son of a Chief Clerk working in Zilla Parishad in Ganjam district of Odisha. Sunil’s mother is a housewife. Anna, who completed her post-graduation from Allahabad University, suggested that she apply for IAS. Till then no member of the family had appeared for any competitive examination. At the same time, a book on Swami Sivananda’s teachings changed his life. But meanwhile his IAS exam was over and he got selected.

When Sunil Patnaik was undergoing IS training at the National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, he had taken his two friends to Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh.

Not agreeing to the marriage
When I returned home after completing IAS training, there was constant pressure to get married at home. But Sunil did not want to be bound by marriage. Finally the family members accepted that they had been defeated. His first post was the Regional Manager of the Dandakaranya Project. There he was responsible for the rehabilitation of thousands of poor families who had migrated from East Pakistan. Later, as the Collector of Bolangir district, Patnaik faced very difficult conditions but he did things that are still remembered by the people there.

The district attorney was sleeping on the mat!
He was first posted in his home state of Odisha. Despite being an IAS, Sunil Patnaik did not use bed pillows to sleep. They used to bring a mat and place it on the floor. Finally, in 1990, Sunil Patnaik took monastic ordination to Rishikesh and changed his name to Nirliptananda.

Sunil Patnaik is the Vice President of the Divine Life Society today. Its headquarters are at Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh. Swami Nirliptananda has two pairs of clothes. Swami Nirliptanand is getting pension under All India Service Pension rules as he was an IAS officer earlier. But all this money goes to Sivananda Ashram.
