Union Home Minister Amit Shah has again hit out at the Congress. He said that the Congress again wants to move forward on the basis of politics of appeasement. At the same time, he hit out at Congress leader P Chidambaram’s statement regarding the CAA and said that the Congress is not going to come to power and is not going to take decisions.

Amit Shah said, “Since the 1960s, the Congress has made the politics of appeasement a weapon to win elections. From 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the developmental agenda in the public mind and on that basis elections in the country began. The Congress is facing this. The Congress is finding it very difficult to contest the elections. On the basis of development and that is why they lose elections continuously.

No one will be wronged

He further said, ‘They again want to move forward on the basis of appeasement politics, why? Because they need to strengthen their minority vote bank. BJP is firm on its principles. No injustice will be done to anyone, but neither will reconciliation be done.

CAA will not make citizenship easier for anyone

On Congress leader P Chidambaram’s statement regarding the CAA, Shah said, ‘What objection does the Congress have to the CAA? CAA will not make citizenship easy for anyone, they (Congress) are misleading the people. They want to win elections through appeasement politics. The public understood the Congress party well. As far as the three laws (criminal laws) are concerned, Chidambaram himself was part of the committee. He gave positive suggestions about it many times and also appreciated them.

Congress does not want results of corruption cases

He also said, ‘The three laws will make the country’s criminal justice system the most modern in the world. Congress does not want results in corruption cases. She wants justice to remain pending, but the policies of BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are clear. Every citizen has the constitutional right to get justice in the shortest possible time. We are committed to making it happen. Congress will not come to power and will not make decisions. I assure the people of the country, CAA will remain and the three (criminal) laws will also be implemented.

Why should the existing CrPC be amended: Chidambaram

Congress leader P Chidambaram said on Tuesday, ’90-95 per cent of the new bill is a copy and paste of the existing CRPC provisions, but the sections have been rearranged, which has created a lot of confusion. Please read my objection note attached to the committee report. It explains which clauses I did not agree to. Why should the existing CRPC be changed? If some of the amendments are necessary and desirable, they could be incorporated by amending the existing Code of Criminal Procedure. The Congress and other opposition parties adopted a similar position.

Earlier Chidambaram said this

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday promised that the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be scrapped in the first session of Parliament if the opposition All India National Alliance (INDIA) is swept to power at the Centre. Chidambaram said that the Congress party intends to repeal the CAA, although it was not mentioned in its manifesto.

Speaking to the media, Chidambaram claimed that CAA was not mentioned in the manifesto because “it took too much time”. The former Union minister said the BJP’s 10-year rule had caused immense damage to the country as it misused its “overwhelming majority” in Parliament. He said, ‘There is a long list of laws, of which five laws will be abolished completely. This is my promise, I am the chairman of the manifesto committee. I wrote every word, I know what was intended. CAA will not be amended, but repealed. We made it clear.
