This statement by Congress’s Vijay Vadettiwar has created a stir in the political circles as the state’s former Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief IPS Hemant Karkare was not killed by Pakistani terrorists during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. He said that the the bullet that killed Hemant Karkare was fired not by Kasab or terrorists, but by the gun of a police officer affiliated with the RSS.
During the election campaign, Congress leader Vijay Vadettiwar, who had attacked the BJP candidate from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency, Ujwal Nikam, said, ‘Nikam has defamed the Congress by raising the issue of biryani. Will someone give kasab biryani? Then what kind of lawyer is Ujjwal Nikam? The bullet that killed the Mumbai policeman, Hemant Karkare, a traitor who did not even give evidence in court, did not come from Kasab’s gun, but from a policeman who was loyal to the RSS at the time. BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde said, “Maharashtra senior Congress leader and LoP Vijay Wadettiwar has proved that Congress can go to any extent to please its special vote bank and get votes by giving a clean slate to 26/11 terrorists. According to him, Kasab did not shoot martyr Hemant Karkare. Isn’t the Congress ashamed of supporting terrorists? “Today the entire country knows why prayers are being offered in Pakistan for the victory of the Congress and Yuvaraj,” he said.

Ujjwal Nikam was among those who argued on behalf of the government against the terrorist Kasab, who was captured alive in the Mumbai attacks on 26/11. Now BJP has made him a candidate from Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency, where Congress’s Varsha Gaikwad is a candidate.
Ujjwal Nikam, who reacted to Vadettiwar’s statement, said that an irresponsible statement is being made. I am hurt by such baseless claims, raising doubts about my efficiency.
