Along with the Lok Sabha, by-elections for the Assembly are also to be held in Karnal, Haryana. BJP is fielding former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar from his Lok Sabha seat. At the same time, BJP has made CM Nayab Saini its candidate for the by-election on the Karnal Assembly seat that fell vacant after the resignation of the CM.
