The Madras High Court on Tuesday refused to quash the three-year jail term awarded to former Tamil Nadu Special Director General of Police Rajesh Dass in a sexual assault case. Justice M Dhandapani, while dismissing various petitions, also refused to grant exemption to Das from surrendering before the trial court.
Das was convicted by a local court in Villeform in 2021 for allegedly sexually assaulting a female police officer. The court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment.
The judge said that in cases concerning the violation of women’s dignity or indecent behavior with them, the courts must be very careful and act slowly while canceling the defendant’s conviction. According to him, the current case concerns a person who held a very high position in the police.
