In a Facebook comment, Believe in Scotland, Alba said it was “the very first organisation” to be invited to take part.

They said this was because the Scottish Greens “will not share a platform with Alba (which we do not agree with).”

However, they said that after about 60 days without a positive response from Alba, they then contacted the Greens and secured Mr Greer’s involvement.

“We felt we had to move on and make sure there wasn’t a hole in our list of speakers,” wrote Believe in Scotland.

“The Scottish Green Party invited them to speak and they immediately accepted, as with all our speakers.”

Alba claimed the description was “misleading”.

They say that while they were invited to take part in February, they were told that only party chairperson Tasmina Ahmed Sheikh or deputy leader Kenny MacAskill would be allowed to address the crowd.

That demand meant that Mr Salmond, ASA Ash Regan and MP Neale Hanvey were not welcome.

Because of this ultimatum, Alba said they needed to take the invitation to the next meeting of their NEC ruling which was in early April.

At that meeting they agreed that Mr MacAskill would represent the party, but when they told Believe in Scotland founder Gordon Macintyre-Kemp, he replied that they were “too late”.

Asked on Facebook if the Greens had given a reason for not sharing the stage with Alba, Believe in Scotland said a motion passed at the party’s conference prevented their elected members from doing so.

A Green source said that this was not correct and that no motion had been passed at the conference but that the party would only want to be on a platform with those whose progressive values are clearly in line with the type of an independent Scotland they wish to see.

In a statement, Alba said they were disappointed that Belie in Scotland had “allowed the Scottish Green Party to tell her which organizations and political parties they think are acceptable”.

They said it was “strange that Believe in Scotland would not allow a pro-independence party to be part of its rally just to appease the Scottish Greens.”

Alba’s party General Secretary, Chris Mceleny, told the Herald: “To paraphrase Alex Salmond’s speech after the 2014 referendum result, the real guardians of progress are not the politicians in Westminster, or even Holyrood, and they certainly are not such AstroTurf limited companies. as Believe in Scotland Ltd, but the energetic activism of tens of thousands of people who have meekly refused to go back into the political shadows.

“I predict that in the upcoming General Election it will be these very people who send Westminster, and those who have settled into the Westminster system, the strongest possible message that the future of the Scotland in Scotland’s hands.”

Cred in Scotland and the Scottish Greens have been contacted for comments.
