Greenock Peel Ports Ocean Terminal’s epic cruise season Achi-News

He noted that early bookings for 2025 were “already aiming for a new record for the port”.

Peel Ports Group said: “2024 cruise numbers build on the success of 2023, which saw the terminal’s busiest year on record, with the terminal welcoming 91 ships.”

He added: “Situated on the Firth of Clyde, the west-facing freight port has been at the heart of Scotland’s shipping industry since 1876, with its container terminal officially opening in 1969.”

The cruise port welcomed its first large ship of the season on Friday, with the 3,560-passenger Regal Princess visiting the town.

Peel Ports Group highlighted the recent launch of a £20 million visitor center at Greenock Ocean Terminal.

He said: “Ships arriving at the port during the year will weigh a combined 500,000 tonnes and span more than 16,000 meters together.

“The level of anticipated visits shows that the world-class visitor center is already providing a return on investment. Launched in August last year, it has led to the creation of more than 70 jobs.”

Jim McSporran, port director of Peel Ports Clydeport, said: “We are looking forward to another busy cruise season at Greenock Ocean Terminal, the first since the launch of our new visitor centre.

“The impressive center is not only a great facility for cruise passengers, it also improves our ability to attract these fantastic ships to Inverclyde from all over the world, which has a positive impact on local businesses and the wider Scottish economy.”

Among the cruise ships arriving at Greenock Ocean Terminal this year will be Cunard’s new flagship, the Queen Anne. This 322-metre vessel will arrive in Greenock on 1 June during her maiden voyage.

Other large ships that will visit the terminal include the Regal Princess, Disney Dream, and Celebrity Apex.

Stephen McCabe, leader of Inverclyde Council, said: “Inverclyde’s cruise tourism sector has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and we are delighted that it will be another busy year at Greenock Ocean Terminal with some very impressive ships arriving.”
