Government agrees to buy 1.8 million metric tonnes of wheat under PASCO Achi-News

Lahore (Web Desk) The ruling party Pakistan Muslim League (N) held a meeting regarding the wheat scandal at Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s residence under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to deal with the wheat procurement crisis. The government has agreed to buy 1.8 million metric tonnes of wheat under PASCO. The Prime Minister has established a committee from the Ministry of National Food Security, the committee will take steps to address the concerns of the farmers in four days.

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister Rana Tanveer MD Pasco Imad Nazir Ahmed and Secretary Food Moazzam Iqbal are also participating in the meeting.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also noted the obstacles in buying wheat and the difficulties faced by farmers in getting the grain.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that by the grace of Allah, there has been a huge crop of wheat this year: the farmers will be compensated for their hard work on time, no compromise on the economic security of the farmers will be accepted.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the officers to go and monitor the wheat purchase and said that the federal government is going to buy 1.8 million metric tons of wheat under PASCO.

Shahbaz Sharif has established a committee of the Ministry of National Food Security, the committee will take steps to address the concerns of farmers in four days.

It should be noted that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif was given a detailed briefing on the wheat situation in Punjab last day. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will present the report of the wheat crisis in the country to Quaid Nawaz Sharif.

In the meeting, various options for purchasing wheat from farmers and the option of issuing farmer cards worth Rs 500 billion were also discussed.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed to issue Kisan Card to the farmers as soon as possible.

According to the sources, in the meeting, there was an echo of importing wheat in the caretaker government first and its approval later.

Mian Nawaz Sharif was told that instead of 25 days, the ship bringing wheat reached Pakistan in just 7 days.

Speaking in the meeting, Mian Nawaz Sharif said that there should be no exploitation of farmers.
