We reported that a collision had occurred between a car and a parked police vehicle on Glasgow Street at around 1pm on Monday.
An officer with the weapon is then allegedly chased after.
A 30-year-old man was arrested and two police officers were injured and treated by paramedics.
The road was closed for about six hours as the officers carried out investigations and the public was assured that there was no threat.
The force has now revealed that the area has been fully reopened.
They thanked people for their patience while the lockdown was in place.
