New Delhi: The 24th Lok Sabha election has almost reached its final stage Voting for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections today, Monday, May 25 In this phase, voting is taking place in 58 parliamentary constituencies across 8 states and union territories across the country Bihar (8 seats), Haryana (10 seats), Jharkhand (4 seats), Odisha (6 seats), Uttar Pradesh (14 seats) and West Bengal (8 seats) and the Union Territories of Delhi (7 seats), Jammu voting in the sixth phase of the elections and Kashmir (1 seat). Voting also takes place in 42 assembly constituencies of Odisha on this day

Among the important candidates in the sixth phase is Kanhaiya Kumar of the Congress (Northeast Delhi). His opponent is BJP’s Manoj Tiwari. Late Sushma Swaraj’s daughter Banshuri is contesting against AAP minister Somnath Bharti in the New Delhi constituency. In Haryana, former BJP chief minister Manoharlal Khattar (Karnal), industrialist Naveen Jindal (Kurukshetra) and Congress’s Raj Babbar (Gurugram) are in the fray.

Several senior leaders are also in the voting field in the sixth period. Three of them are Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan (Sambalpur), Krishnapal Singh Gurjar and Rao Indrajit Singh. Three former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti (in Anantnag-Rajouri), Manohar Lal Khattar (Karnal) and Jagdambika Pal are also contesting the elections.

Maneka Gandhi from the Gandhi family is contesting on a BJP ticket for Sultanpur from Uttar Pradesh despite not giving a ticket to Varun Gandhi. BJP’s Sambit Patra, who caused controversy by making false comments before the polls, is also contesting from Odisha’s Puri today.

In Bengal, the sixth phase of polling will be held in Bankura, Bishnupur, Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia. Among the heavyweight candidates are Deepak Adhikari (Dev) from Ghatal, Hiran Chatterjee, former Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay contesting for BJP from Tamluk. On the other hand, Agnimitra Pal, Sujata Mandal, Soumitra Khan, June Mallya, Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, Nepal Mahato, Pranath Tudu, Kalipad Soren are also fighting in the polls today.
