Fact Checked: ‘Raebarili, Rahul-Priyanka candidates from Amethi’, fake press release goes viral on social media Achi-News

new delhi # A press release circulated on social media says that the Congress has officially announced the names of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi from Rae Barilly and Amethi. That press release is false. On April 30, 2024, the Congress did not issue any press release announcing the names of Rahul and Priyanka in those two centres.

Speculation is rife in political circles that the Congress may field Rahul and Priyanka from Amethi and Rae Bareli. However, Haat Shibir has not officially announced any name yet. In the fifth stage ie voting in Rae Barilly and Amethi on May 20. The last date for submitting nominations is May 3.

Rahul Gandhi contested from Amethi in Lok Sabha elections 2019. But he lost to BJP candidate Smriti Irani. Although Sonia Gandhi has held the Rae Bareli seat since 2004. But as a Rajya Sabha MP in February this year, this seat is also currently vacant. Both seats are historically Congress strongholds.

The viral photo was shared on Facebook. The caption reads in Hindi, “Priyanka Gandhi from Amethi, Rahul Gandhi from Rae Barilly. With a press release dated 30 April 204. It also bears the signature of Congress general secretary KC Venugopal.”

But this press release is completely false. Because Congress has not officially declared candidates for Amethi and Rae Bareli constituencies till now. Furthermore, the Congress has not issued any such press release. The press release available from the official Congress X handle lists four candidates. But the name of Rahul or Priyanka Gandhi is not there.

There are also some inconsistencies in the fake press release. For example, ’30 April 2024′ is written in a different font. Also, the font used for the candidate’s name is not consistent with the font used in the rest of the circular. The official Congress press release has the date below the signature while the viral photo has the date above. So it can be definitely said that the viral press release of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi as Lok Sabha candidates from Amethi and Rae Bareli is fake.
