Fact Checked by BoomLive New Delhi: A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone viral on social media. There he commented on the skin color of President Draupadi Murmu. In the 16 second viral video, the Prime Minister is heard saying, “Those whose skin color is black, they all come from Africa. Draupadi Murmu is also African. He should be beaten for being black”.
News 18 Bangla has fact-checked and found that the video was hacked. Prime Minister Modi said this in the wake of Congress leader Sam Pitroda’s comments comparing South Indians to Africans in the original video. In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had complained that the Congress did not want Draupadi Murmu to become the President because of the color of his skin.

Sharing this cropped video on Facebook, a user wrote, “Those who have dark skin in India, try to lighten their dark skin before June 4. Because Narendra Modi called all the black people of India Africans .Even the President of the country was not spared. When Narendra Modi returns to power on June 4, you will all have to go to Africa”.
A reverse image search of the original frames of the viral video reveals a report by NDTV on May 8, 2024. According to the report, Prime Minister Modi targeted the Congress over Sam Pitroda’s racist remarks while addressing a public meeting in Warangal Telangana. BJP’s official YouTube channel has the full video of that rally in Warangal. The Prime Minister’s comments are between 43 minutes 50 seconds and 45 minutes 23 seconds of the 58 minute live video.
Talking about how the Congress tried to defeat President Draupadi Murmu, the Prime Minister said, “Today, I came to know that Yuvraj’s (Rahul Gandhi) uncle (Sam Pitroda) lives in America. He is Yuvraj’s guide. These days cricket has a third umpire… if there is any confusion the third umpire is asked. Similarly, Yuvraj takes uncle’s advice when he is confused”.
Then PM Modi said, “Yuvraj’s mentor and guiding uncle has revealed a big secret. He said, those whose skin color is black all come from Africa. I mean all of you, he gave such a big insult about the skin color of the people of the country. That’s when I realized that by seeing the skin color, they assumed that Draupadi Murma was also African. His appearance is black, so he should be defeated”. It is clear that the main part of the Prime Minister’s speech is shortened and the incomplete speech is divided.
