Fact Check: ED search in AAP leader’s house in Gujarat? You will be surprised to know the truth of the viral video Achi-News

Fact Checked by Boomlive new delhi # As the elections are going on, various videos and pictures are spreading on social media, which have the power to directly influence a party. Recently, a video of the ED raid went viral on social media, claiming it to be an ED raid on the house of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Shekhar Agarwal in Surat. News 18 Bangla has verified that the claims made in the viral video on social media are false. In fact, here is a video of an ED raid in 2022 at the house of a businessman named Aamir Khan in Kolkata. This viral video of about 30 seconds shows bundles of many notes. Some people are also seen counting these notes with the help of machines. This video is being shared targeting the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

In this regard, we would like to inform everyone that the Lok Sabha elections 2024 have been voted in two phases across the country. The third phase of voting is scheduled for May 7. Election results will be announced on June 4. Meanwhile, an uproar has started across the country with this video which has gone viral on social media.

Sharing the video on X, a BJP supporter wrote, “The house of Shekhar Aggarwal, the honest leader of Aam Aadmi Party, the most honest party in the country, was looted in Surat Gujarat. Their honesty and preparation can be assessed for the election by seeing this amount of money.’

Fact Check: Actually, this video went viral in 2022 with the same claim and News18 Bangla confirmed its authenticity even then. According to claims that went viral at the time, the Surat unit of the Aam Aadmi Party was contacted to get information about any such raid at AAP leader Shekhar Aggarwal’s house in Surat. At the time, refuting this claim, it was said that AAP’s Surat unit does not have a leader named Shekhar Aggarwal.

After listening carefully and watching the viral video, we realized that the people present in the video were speaking in Bengali. This is what makes us suspect that the viral claim is false. In order to investigate this, we did a reverse image search of the original frames of the video Hereby we have a report dated 11 September 2022 from the news website ‘The Print’. Images such as viral videos can be seen in this report. According to the report, the Enforcement Directorate raided the house of Kolkata businessman Amir Khan and recovered around 17 crore rupees. The report also said that Aamir Khan has been accused of cheating people with the help of a mobile gaming app called e-Nuggets. ANI has been given news credit for this report. From here we went to the X ANI handle. With advanced search, we found the same video posted on ANI’s X on September 10, 2022. This post is only about Kolkata. I mean, the viral video is from Kolkata.

We have searched for more media reports on this subject following the post archive link. An NDTV report dated September 11, 2022 also said that the Anti-Money Laundering Agency raided six locations in Kolkata, including businessman Aamir Khan’s house. During this period, the ED recovered about Rs.1732 crore. A cash counting machine was also introduced to count these notes. The report also included images from the viral video. It is clear that the viral video, the video of the raid on a businessman’s house in Kolkata.

Additionally, in 2022, the then district president of the Surat unit, Mahendra Navadia, said that the viral claim was false. The Surat unit of AAP does not have a leader named Shekhar Aggarwal. He confirmed at the time that no ED raid was conducted in any AAP leader’s house in Surat. We searched for media reports related to such raids in Gujarat recently. But, we could not find any such report related to the video. There was no recent post on X ED’s handle, which confirms that the claim made with the viral video is false.
