New Delhi: Eastern Railway has taken a special initiative to make the dark world visible to visually impaired passengers through Braille navigation. Even without the help of another passenger, visually impaired Divyangjans can understand where the ticket counters are and what the facilities are at the stations themselves with the help of braille navigation at Kolkata and Sealdah stations.
Eastern Railway is constantly striving to make rail services more inclusive and accessible, which is an important step towards helping visually impaired passengers. Eastern Railway in collaboration with a social organization (NGO) called ‘Anuprayas’ has installed Braille navigation maps at Sealdah and Kolkata railway stations. This Braille navigation map system is also kept at Howrah station.
The aim of this fantastic initiative is to enable visually impaired passengers to move around the station independently without any assistance. Braille navigation maps have been strategically placed at the entrances of Sealdah, Kolkata and Howrah stations measuring 4 feet x 2 feet in length and width.

These maps identify various essential services and facilities within the station such as ticket counters, lobby areas, water taps, toilets, waiting rooms, cloakrooms, platform numbers, entrances and exits, escalators, lifts and “Can I” Desks to Help You”. guidance on how to
Initiatives such as this braille navigation map not only facilitate easy travel for visually impaired passengers but also create an environment where all individuals can navigate confidently from the public areas of the station.

The use of Braille navigation maps, which cater for the needs of visually impaired commuters and will significantly improve their travel experience and mobility.”
