Lord Vishnu, Vaishnavi Devi found an idol!

Ancient statues of Lord Vishnu and Vaishnavi Devi, statues of Kali and Nandi with a lingam have been found at Kalathur in Ammapatti Panchayat near Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district of Madurai, Tamil Nadu. These sculptures are believed to be 1,200 years old.

An ancient idol was discovered on the river bank!

Ammapatti Veeriah has given information that there is an ancient statue of Vishnu on the banks of Arjuna River at Kalattur. Based on this information, Ramanathapura Archaeological Research Institute President V Rajaguru and historian Noorasahipuram Sivakumar conducted a survey.

Heavenly idol!

According to the survey, Lord Vishnu is mentioned as ‘Mayon’, the earth god Mullai Thinai in Tolkappiyam and ‘Nedumal’, ‘Nedion’ and ‘Nedumudi’ in other Tamil literature. Lord Vishnu sits on a pedestal with emaciated face, four hands, conch shell and Pragya Chakra in the back hands in Kartarimukha posture.

Front hands are on the hips. There is a Rajaguru wearing a tiara and ornaments decorated with makara.
