The Election Commission (EC) filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on the request of the National Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The ADR has sought to disclose the final certified figures of voter turnout in all polling stations, including the number of votes polled in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections within 48 hours of polling. The commission sought to reject the ADR affidavit saying that some vested interests continue to raise false allegations against it to defame the function.

Last week, the Supreme Court asked the Election Commission to submit its reply to a plea seeking to immediately upload the data of votes cast in all polling stations after the end of voting in each phase of the recent Lok Sabha elections. The ADR claimed that there was an excessive delay in the publication of the voter turnout figures in the first two phases of the elections. Besides the delay in publishing the details of the voter turnout, the request states that there has been an increase in the early voter turnout figures published by the Election Commission.

The request sought directions to the Commission to provide tabular data regarding the polling station with complete data of the number of votes recorded in Form 17C Part-1 after each phase of voting in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Also, tabulate constituency-wise data of the absolute number of votes polled in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The application states that the voting data for the first two phases of the general election were published on April 19, 11 days after the first phase of voting and on April 30, four days after the second phase of voting on April 26. To this, the Commission stated that the data published by it in a press release dated April 30 showed a sharp increase (about 5-6 percent) in the percentage of early voting that was announced on the day of the vote.
