There has been a significant increase in cyber crimes in India. An average of more than 7,000 complaints are filed daily till May 2024. This information was given by Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Center (I4C) Director General Rajesh Kumar on Wednesday. Kumar said most of the cyber criminals targeting India operate from key locations in Southeast Asia .

This includes Pursat, Koh Kong, Sihanoukville, Kandal, Bavet and Poipet in Cambodia, while Myawaddy and Shwe Kokko in Thailand and Myanmar. Most of the cyber fraud incidents this year are related to fake trading apps, loan apps, gaming apps, dating apps and algorithm manipulation.

10 thousand FIRs have been registered

India’s Cyber ​​Crime Coordination (I4C) wing received a total of 4,599 complaints regarding digital fraud worth Rs 1,203 crore between January and April this year. Similarly, 20,043 complaints were received regarding business frauds worth Rs 14,204 crore. Subsequently, 62,687 complaints of investment-related frauds worth Rs 2,225.82 crore were received. There were 1725 dating app fraud complaints, in which a fraud of Rs 132.31 crore was committed. A total of 10,000 FIRs have been filed by various law enforcement agencies in all these cases.

3.25 lakh bank accounts have been frozen in the last four months

To combat these fraudsters, the I4C wing has frozen around 3.25 lakh bank accounts in the last four months (January to April) with the help of various law enforcement agencies and its team efforts. Apart from this, 5.3 lakh SIM cards were blocked. 3,401 social media accounts including WhatsApp groups were also frozen.
