Guwahati: The Indian National Congress (INC) manifesto – “Nayi Petra” – for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections focuses on protecting the Constitution while promising the country freedom from the shackles of fear among other freedoms perceived to be lost because of them. In recent years.

Congress general secretary in charge of Assam Jitendra Singh on Monday launched the party’s manifesto in Assam and alleged that the BJP-led government has “failed” to fulfill its promise to the people. Singh claimed that the Congress would fulfill all its manifesto promises.

The manifesto undertakes to address various issues, starting with ensuring freedom from fear. Its purpose is to restore freedom of speech and expression, including full freedom of communication. In addition, the INC promises to decriminalize defamation and provide prompt civil relief.

Internet freedom is another concern being addressed, with a commitment to end arbitrary suspensions.

The Telecommunications Act of 2023 will be reviewed to remove provisions that limit free speech and violate privacy rights.

Furthermore, the manifesto vows to review all laws that violate privacy rights and uphold the right to peaceful assembly.

The ‘one country and elections’ proposal is rejected, and the INC commits to holding elections according to the constitution and democratic traditions.

To restore confidence in the electoral process, the manifesto proposes a combination of electronic voting machines and paper ballots.

It also promises to strengthen the autonomy of various constitutional bodies and amend laws to prevent defection.

The manifesto also aims to revitalize the Planning Commission, ensure that law enforcement agencies operate within the limits of the law, and end the abuse of laws and arbitrary actions.

Comprehensive prison reform is also on the agenda to turn prisons into rehabilitation centers.

The INC manifesto outlines a comprehensive plan to tackle various challenges and restore freedom, democracy and trust in institutions in India and reverse the damage already done.
