Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi files nomination from Jorhat for Lok Sabha elections Achi-News

Guwahati: Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Gaurav Gogoi has officially thrown his hat into the ring ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Jorhat, Assam.

Accompanied by party leaders, Gogoi submitted his nomination papers on March 26.

Gaurav Gogoi took to X to advertise, "Filed my nomination as @INCIndia candidate for Jorhat Parliamentary Constituency today. This nomination represents the aspirations of the youth, women, marginalized, farmers and every hard working person of Assam eager for change and development. My deepest gratitude to the people of Assam for the outpouring of love and support."

The Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency reportedly holds significant electoral importance, having witnessed 11 elections since 1971. Historically, the Indian National Congress (INC) has dominated the seat, winning on eight occasions. However, the political landscape has seen occasional changes, with an independent candidate and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing victories once and twice, respectively.

The election process in Assam will be held in three phases, starting from April 19. The official notification for the elections for the first phase was published on March 20, and candidates must submit their documents by March 27. The papers will be examined on March 20. March 28, and candidates can withdraw until March 30.

The second phase of the elections is on April 26. The notification will be issued on March 28, and the documents must be submitted by April 4. They will be reviewed on April 5th, and candidates can withdraw until April 8th.

The last phase of the elections is on May 7. The announcement will be made on April 12, and applicants have until April 19 to submit their documents. The documents will be reviewed on April 20, and candidates will be able to withdraw until April 22.
