Congress leader Anand Sharma to contest Lok Sabha elections for the first time, now a Brahmin vs. Brahmin contest in Kangra – News18 Hindi Achi-News

Shimla While announcing its candidate from the Kangra Lok Sabha constituency, the Congress on Tuesday decided to field senior party leader Anand Sharma from this seat. Sharma, who was a member of the Rajya Sabha, is contesting the Lok Sabha elections for the first time.

The Congress Central Election Committee on Tuesday evening announced the names of Anand Sharma and Satpal Raizada as the party’s candidates from Kangra and Mirpur seats. Now there will be a Brahmin vs. Brahmin contest in the Kangra parliamentary constituency as the BJP has fielded the state’s vice president, Rajiv Bhardwaj from this seat. Rajiv is the nephew of former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar.

Sharma was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1984, 1994, 2010 and 2016 during his active political career spanning five decades. He served as Union Commerce Minister between 2009 and 2014. Sharma served as the president of the Youth Congress. He was also chairman and member of various standing committees of the Parliament. This is Sharma’s first Lok Sabha election.
