Young boys and girls got married in their maternal grandfather’s house, leaving behind their original place of residence. However, after receiving the information, the district administration staff stopped the marriage. The case concerns a village in Mata Block, where preparations continued for the child marriage of a boy and a girl. District Child Protection Officer Vyom Srivastava said that a child marriage of a boy and a girl was about to take place in the village, which was stopped. The said boy was about to marry a girl who came to his maternal grandfather’s house in the village itself. The team has taken action against the girl-girl’s family members. The family agreed to the marriage after completing the prescribed age and asked to postpone the marriage. The young man’s family told the district administration team that they are not aware that according to the existing law, the marriage of a girl under the age of 18 and a boy under the age of 21 is illegal. During this, Rochi Thakur, Krishna Kumar Chandrakar, Rajendra Prasad Chandravanshi, Shivakumar, Anita Sunwani, Deepika Dhruv, who were part of the team, gave advice. Then the family members of the groom’s side swore that the child would be married according to the existing law. The joint team informed the family about the provisions of the Child Marriage Prohibition Act of 2006. It is a crime to get married before reaching the prescribed age. Also, legal action can be taken against all service providers who manage child marriages. Whoever does or causes such a thing to happen or gives assistance in marriage can also be punished with rigorous imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to one lakh rupees. Most of the marriage programs are held at Akshaya Tritiya in the district. During this period, the district administration is on alert regarding the possibility of child marriage. Collector Ranbir Sharma also took a meeting recently. Instructions were also given to the district management team to visit rural areas. At his behest, the team visits rural areas and monitors them. On Friday the Akshaya Tritiya festival will be celebrated with great pomp in the rural areas including the city.
