In Dhola Kuan in the Sirmaur district of Himachal, after the flowers are dried and their waste materials are prepared, beauty products are made. Products made from dried flowers or different parts of their plants are durable and last a long time. The dried flower market is growing rapidly due to environmental awareness, biodegradable options and consumer preferences.

Dr Priyanka Thakur, Chief Florist of the Regional Horticultural Research and Training Station located at Dhaulakuan in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, says that the dried flower and flower industry in India is estimated to have an annual turnover of Rs 500 crore. After processing the waste and dried flowers of flowering plants, they are purified and used for beautification, mainly using dried flowers and their leaves.

How do you dry flowers?
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are rich reserves of wild plants and natural flowering plants. By drying these flowers, products such as pictures, cards, montages, flowerpots and pomanders etc. are created. Flowers and flowering plant parts are dried in many ways. These include natural sun drying, press drying, etc. Apart from this, decorative things are done by painting bold fruit structures in different colors or colors, such as red, brown, silver or gold.

According to experts, there is a good possibility to establish a dry flower industry in the Himalayan region and provide employment to housewives and rural women. Their original shape, color and size do not deteriorate, which makes them suitable raw materials for interior decoration. Compared to the decorative items sold in the market, the price of these products made from dry flowers or waste is also lower, due to which people love them.
