A 27-year-old Morley resident is facing several charges after an incident Tuesday with an RCMP officer in a rural area near Cochrane.

After a traffic stop, the man confronted the police officer who wanted to arrest him.

As a result, the officer had to shoot the suspect, who suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Following an investigation into the incident by police and the Alberta Southern District General Investigations Department, Cohen Rattlesnake of Morley, Alta., was charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, flight from a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, possession without possession of a firearm, firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, transportation of a dangerous operation, possession of a weapon without authorization and possession of property obtained by crime.

Following a bail hearing, Rattlesnake was remanded in custody.

He is expected to appear in court in Calgary on Friday and in the Tsuut’ina Nation Justice Court on Friday as well.

The investigation is ongoing. Police say more charges could be filed.
