A direct contest between Rajiv Chandrashekhar and Shashi Tharoor for the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat.

In Kerala, Trivandrum was renamed Thiruvananthapuram in 2008. A lot has changed there since then. But if nothing has changed in recent times, it is the victory of powerful Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. This time too Tharoor is in the election fray, where he is at odds with the Union Minister.

Tharoor also believes that his rivals from Delhi are trying to do better than before. While talking to TV9 Bharatvarsha, he said that when he came from Delhi, he was in third place but now he is in second place.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Communist Party of India (CPI) Panyan Ravindran and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar are the main candidates for the Thiruvananthapuram seat in Kerala.

The politics of Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat is one of the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala. There are 20 parliamentary seats in the country. The Thiruvananthapuram seat consists of seven assembly constituencies, including Kazhakottam, Vattiyoorkavu, Thiruvananthapuram, Nemom, Parasala, Kovalam and Neyyattinkara. This constituency is a general seat and is not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

The Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) are the main parties in the constituency. Of these, 7,06,730 are male voters. The number of women voters is 6,64,663. The voters of the third gender are 34. The total number of voters in 2019 was 10,10,180. Of these, the total male voters were 4,90,244 and female voters were 5,13,476. The total voting percentage in 2019 was 73.66 percent. Dr. Shashi Tharoor of Congress won 4,16,131 votes.

Tharoor is a big challenge

From a political point of view, this seat is considered to be the stronghold of senior Congress leader Dr. Shashi Tharoor. Since the 2009 general elections, Shashi Tharoor has been winning from here with a huge margin of votes. In the 2019 general elections, he won by defeating Kumnam Rajasekaran of BJP with 99,989 votes.The voter turnout in 2019 was 73.45 percent of the total voters.The population of Thiruvananthapuram district is 33,01,427, of which Hindus are 19.1 percent and Muslims are 13.72 percent See the BJP continuously strengthen its base.
