Indian CDS Anil Chauhan was on an important tour of France last week. CDS’s French tour ended on Saturday. During this, CDS visited France’s leading defense companies Dassault Aviation, Safran and Naval Group. The CDS visit to France is important for building India’s military capabilities.
Defense deals discussed
On Sunday, the Ministry of Defense issued a statement saying that Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan’s visit to France has concluded, reaffirming India’s long-term strategic partnership with France. India is purchasing 26 Rafale fighter jets (Marine Jet) as well as three Scorpene submarines from France. This deal was approved by India’s Ministry of Defense in July last year. The Rafale fighter jets will be deployed at INS Vikrant. As part of Project 75, six Scorpene submarines were built in India with the help of the French Naval Group. Defense cooperation between India and France has increased in recent years.
India-France increases strategic cooperation
The two countries are discussing the possibilities of working together on modern defense technology, which could benefit other countries as well. During his visit to France, CDS Anil Chauhan met the civil and military leadership of France and discussed increasing cooperation in the defense sector between the two countries. The CDS met Patrick Paillot, Director of the French Civil and Military Cabinet, and Lieutenant General Vincent Giroud, Chief of the Military Cabinet. China’s intervention in the Indian Ocean is increasing. In such a situation, both countries also discussed it. The CDS also visited the French Land Forces Command, the French Space Command and the School of Military Studies.
CDS also visited Neuve-Chapelle and the Villers-Guislain War Memorial. These war memorials are built to honor the sacrifices of Indian soldiers during the First World War.
