Canadian police on Friday arrested three members of the alleged hit squad in connection with the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have also released photos of the suspects. Investigators have claimed that the Indian government assigned the task of killing Nijjar to these people.

Last year, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had claimed that Indian agents could be involved in Nijjar’s murder. After this there was a lot of tension between the two countries. India later rejected Trudeau’s claims as absurd and motivated.

CTV News quoted a top government source as saying that three people have been arrested in connection with Nijjar’s murder. Karanpreet Singh, 28, Kamalpreet Singh, 22, and Karan Brar, 22, have been charged with murder and conspiracy to murder in Nijjar, according to court documents. Nijjar (aged 45) was shot outside the Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia on June 18, 2023. He was a Canadian citizen.

Canadian police are investigating possible links to three additional murders, including the shooting death of an 11-year-old boy in Edmonton, CBS reported, citing sources close to the investigation. According to sources, the members of the hit squad allegedly played different roles as sniper, driver and spy on the day Nijjar was murdered at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia.

The news said that operations were carried out in two states on Friday, when these people were arrested. Sources said investigators identified members of an alleged Canadian hit squad a few months ago and kept them under close surveillance.

India on Thursday rejected Prime Minister Trudeau’s latest comments on the killing of Nijjar, saying the comments reflect the political space given to separatism, extremism and violence in Canada. Trudeau addressed a Khalsa Day event in Toronto on Sunday, which was also attended by some supporters of Khalistan.
