A decision has been reached regarding an evacuation in Cambridge, Ont. encampment.

According to legal representatives for the two tenants, the city has “agreed to withdraw its eviction notices” for the Ranchton Road property, located behind the PetroCanada gas station on Dundas Street. They added that they “do not know the municipality’s reasons for making this decision.”

CTV News reached out to representatives of the City of Cambridge but has not yet received a response.

Michael Nanos, 52, and Joseph Micallef, 68, were told they had until March 28 to leave, but during an injunction hearing, lawyers for both sides agreed the men could stay until the matter went to court.

In a press release, Regional Waterloo Legal Services said: “We further welcome the opportunity to work with the City of Cambridge on the issue of a human rights-based approach to homelessness and encampment.”
