The Calcutta High Court stayed the police inquiry against a Raj Bhavan official for wrongfully restraining a woman who had accused Governor Kurat Haim Anand Bose of harassment. Justice Amrita Sinha ordered a temporary stay on the investigation till June 17.

Justice Sinha’s court directed the police to present the report on the investigation done so far on June 10. The case will be heard the same day. Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Sandeep Kumar Singh approached the Supreme Court, challenging the quashing of the proceedings and the registered FIR against him

According to the police, on May 2, an FIR was registered against three policemen, including the OSD, for illegally preventing the woman from leaving the Raj Bhavan. On May 2, the woman accused Governor Bose of harassment. The Kolkata Police then started an investigation. According to Article 361 of the Constitution, criminal proceedings cannot be initiated against a governor during his term of office. Singh and two other officers obtained bail from the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on 21 May. Singh’s lawyer Rajdeep Majumdar argued before Justice Sinha’s court that the allegations were mischievous and no case could be registered on their basis.
