Odisha police arrested a British national. He is accused of entering the Jagannath temple in an unauthorized manner. When the police tried to arrest him, he attacked the police team itself. The police then took him into custody. A police officer provided this information on Sunday.
How did Thomas enter the temple?
Police said the foreign tourist was identified as Thomas Craig Sheldon. Thomas is from Wandsworth, South London. Let us tell you that entry of non-Hindus is prohibited in the 12th century Jagannath Temple. Even after that, Thomas entered the temple. When the police arrested him and asked him to leave the temple area, Thomas allegedly attacked the police. Puri DSP City Prashant Kumar Sahu said that we have taken the foreign tourist into custody and further investigation is on.
Such cases have also happened in the past
Earlier on March 23, a woman from Poland who entered the temple was arrested. Exactly one week later, British citizen Thomas was arrested. Earlier on March 3, some Bangladeshi nationals were caught entering the temple. He was later released.
