Due to the Lok Sabha elections, the atmosphere of the entire country is political. Meanwhile, a new book was published, in which many interesting stories from the history of Indian politics were told. There is also a mention of the story of Madhavrao Scindia campaigning against his own mother and the queen mother of the Gwalior royal family, Vijayaraje Scindia.

A story about the 1989 Lok Sabha elections in a book

Many political stories were told in the book of the writer-journalist Bhaskar Rao ‘through fifty years’. One of them is the 1989 Lok Sabha elections, in which Vijayaraja Scindia was in the electoral field, while his son Madhabrau Scindia campaigned against his mother in that election. According to the book, Madhavrao Scindia worked in favor of the Congress candidate. His mother Vijayaraje Scindia contested on a Jan Sangh ticket. During the election campaign, Vijayaraje Scindia’s target was not the Congress candidate or Rajiv Gandhi but his son Madhavrao Scindia.

During the election campaign, Rajamata Vijayaraja Skandia used to say to voters, ‘Ask your killer’ where is the development? If someone throws bricks at us, we will respond with stones. Whereas Madhavrao Scindia felt that his mother was under the influence of BJP and is their puppet. It is said in the book that Vijayaraje Scindia’s enmity with his own son was interesting. It is said in the book that the reason for the differences between the two was not only political. Many people say that Vijayaraje Scindia was not happy with her son Madhavrao Scindia joining the Congress and she wanted Madhavrao Scindia to stay in the Jan Sangh. While some say that between the two there was a dispute regarding the management of the property of the royal family.

Kanshiram asked for one rupee note from the voters

Another story in the book is about BSP founder Kanshi Ram contesting elections from Allahabad in 1988. Kanshi Ram contested the 1988 Lok Sabha elections from the Allahabad seat against former Prime Minister Singh and Sunil Shastri of the Congress. Vice President Singh won this election. However, during that period, Kanshi Ram gave a slogan of one voice, one note, which became very popular. Kanshiram said that “big political parties spend liquor and money like water in elections”. I appeal to each of my voters to give one rupee note along with their vote.

Apart from these, in the book, former Andhra Pradesh CM NT Rama Rao campaigned in Haryana in support of former Deputy Chief Minister Devi Lal. NT Rama Rao’s Hindi was not good, so no one understood the words of his speech, but everyone understood one thing, that was to ‘dislodge the Congress’. Apart from this, the book covers the Naxalbari movement, Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, George Fernandes’ historic railway strike, Emergency, Operation Bluestar, Indira Gandhi’s assassination, Rajiv Gandhi’s emphasis on technology, Atal Bihari and G. Pei, Jyoti Char Basu, Siddhar Shan, Siddhar. There are also stories related to Majumdar, Manmohan Singh, LK Advani, Sonia Gandhi, Amitabh Bachchan and the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
