Boiler explosion in Maharashtra’s Thane kills 11, injures dozens Achi-News

Guwahati: A devastating boiler explosion at Amodan Chemicals in MIDC Phase 2 area of ​​Dombivli has claimed the lives of 11 people and injured several others, according to media reports. The explosion happened on Thursday, May 23, prompting the authorities to register a case of culpable homicide against the owner of the unit.

64 people, including many women from nearby factories, were injured and are being treated in at least six hospitals, with AIMS Hospital in Dombivli treating two dozen patients. The bodies of the deceased were sent to government hospitals for post-mortem examinations.

Ten fire engines were deployed to control the blaze, and firefighting efforts continued after 11pm on Thursday. “Now, cooling operations are underway," said Kailas Nikam of the Disaster Management Cell of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC).

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ekanth Shinde ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He promised that the government would cover the medical expenses of the injured.

"A high-level investigation will be conducted and an investigation will be conducted against the accused. no one will be spared," Shind determined. He also mentioned that the company will compensate the injured workers.

Shind emphasized the intensity of the explosion and noted that 6-7 factories and neighboring residential properties were damaged. He emphasized that very dangerous companies, classified as red, will be moved to non-residential areas to prevent such cases in the future.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that eight people involved in the incident have been rescued. A case has been registered against the owners of Amudan Chemicals, Malti Pradeep Mehta and Malay Pradeep Mehta, along with the director, manager and other office bearers of the company under sections 304, 324, 326, 285, 286, 427 and 34 of the IPC.

The police reported that the accused are now absconding, and five teams have been formed to trace and nab them. The police added that inadequate precautions in the chemical process and storage led to the explosions.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) noted that Amudan Chemicals Private Limited, owned by Malai Mehta, manufactures food coloring and uses peroxides – highly reactive and unstable chemicals that can cause violent explosions under certain conditions.
