Boeing’s new commercial aircraft chief, Stephanie Pope, has told his employees that the company is facing a “critical moment”. Fox News reported.

Her statement comes as the airline tries to restore its reputation and address concerns from regulators after the 737 Max crisis – when an air panel blew off an Alaska Airlines plane mid-flight in January.

Pope has replaced Stan Deal as CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Deal spent four decades at the company. Apart from this, the company’s management overhaul included CEO Dave Calhoun announcing his departure by the end of the year.

In a letter to staff on Wednesday, the Pope said: “This is a critical moment for us, and we have serious work ahead of us to build trust and improve our operations.”

The new boss, who was previously chief operating officer, said he would be holding meetings with the team over the coming weeks as they “improve and implement his quality and safety improvement plan”.

“Our path forward is clear. We will put safety and quality above all else in order to meet and exceed the expectations of our regulators, customers, the flying public and each other,” he said. “And most importantly, we will actively listen to our team on the factory floor and respond to feedback and improve.”
