Srinagar: Advocate Sajid Yusuf Shah, media in-charge of BJP Kashmir, has filed a complaint with the Election Commissioner of India against former Chief Minister and JKNC leader Dr Farooq Abdullah.

The complaint states that Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the J&K National Conference, made provocative statements during a rally at the Government Degree College in Mandhar on 19.05.2024. These statements were widely covered by the media.

Dr. Abdullah made two objectionable comments during his speech. First, he suggested that peace in the region cannot be achieved without talks with Pakistan, referring to the recent killing of Sarpanch in Harpura, Shopian. Such rhetoric, especially during an election campaign, implies legitimizing foreign influence about the elections in India, which is unacceptable in any democracy.

Furthermore, advocating for an international investigation into the killing indicates a rejection of the Indian constitutional and legal system. This suggests a lack of trust in Indian institutions and fosters a narrative that undermines the nation’s sovereignty and integrity.

Such actions clearly contradict the principles of Indian democracy, which aim to preserve national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Therefore, I urge you to take appropriate legal action against Dr. Farooq Abdullah and the J&K National Conference to maintain the integrity of our election process.

In a separate complaint, social activist Sheeraz Zaman of Kulgam also filed a complaint with the ECI against Dr. Farooq Abdullah for his anti-national remarks in Mandhar, Poonch.

The complaint stated that actions as required by the law of the land will be taken against Farooq Abdullah and the National Conference of his party J&K, by virtue of the powers given to you as the head of the respected constitutional body of the country.
