I have just returned from Paris on a gymnastics assignment with the Irish Olympic Federation and the High Performance Directors (HPD) from Equestrian Ireland, and a host of other Irish sports that will be competing at this year’s Summer Games.

There are some brilliant minds working in Olympic sport and two of the experts I got to speak to were Neil Manchip, HPD at Golf Ireland, and Iain Dyer, HPD at Cycling Ireland. Both have extensive knowledge of their respective sports and, like Sport Ireland and the OFI, understand that elite sport is incredibly competitive. This competition creates enormous challenges for the athletes and coaches and to drive performance we need to create really strong support.
