Bengaluru News: Bengaluru hit by heavy floods; See IMD report Achi-News

Bengaluru: According to the data collected by the India Meteorological Department, the city of Bengaluru has recorded 73 incidents of flooding between 1969 and 2019. The Bangalore city area is the most vulnerable to flooding (vulnerability index of 0.57) among all areas of South India , except some areas in Kerala.

Extreme flooding
During this 50-year period, the city of Bengaluru recorded 73 flood events, while rural Bangalore recorded 71 flood events, the Hindu website reported. Dakshina Kannada (47), Uttara Kannada (40), Bellary and Raichur (36), and Kodagu and Kalburgi (34) districts have been affected by floods.

‘Due to increasing demand for land and growing population, urbanization is on the rise in cities like Bangalore. As a result of this there is no way to reach the various tributaries, the rainwater often does not go where it needs to go,’ said Shri Prasad, a scientist at IMD Bangalore.
