Of the 111 companies to be deployed for Raiganj, the maximum deployment will be for Islampur constituency, one of seven under this Lok Sabha.
Sources said there are reasons to keep Raiganj under a special scanner as the Election Commission of India (ECI) did in the case of Cooch Behar in the first phase on April 19.
It is learned that out of the 1,730 polling stations in Raiganj, 418 or 24 percent are highly sensitive booths. The figure is relatively high compared to that of Darjeeling where 20 percent of the booths are particularly sensitive. In the case of Balurghat, the figure is 19 percent.
In the first phase, 100 percent of the polling stations were covered under online casting, and the same will be done in the second phase as well. Through this webcast, the officials of the CEO’s office will be able to follow the developments in the polling stations directly from the officials’ control room.
