Dhaka (Newsdesk) Schools in Bangladesh reopened despite the three-day extension of the heatwave warning.

Millions of students across Bangladesh have returned to their schools despite heatwaves that closed classrooms across the country last weekend, according to foreign news agencies.

The reopening of schools on Sunday came after officials issued another heatwave warning for three more days. Bangladesh is facing the longest heat wave in 75 years.

Meteorologist Shaheenul Islam said the heat wave reached its 29th day on Sunday, the longest recorded by the government since 1948.

The highest weather temperature was recorded at 42.7 degrees Celsius in the south-western district of Chuadanga on Friday.

According to data from the Meteorological Department, the highest temperature in the capital Dhaka on that day was 38.2 degrees. The average maximum temperature in Dhaka during the past week is 4-5 degrees Celsius (7.2-9 degrees Fahrenheit) higher than the 30-year average for the same period.
