In Karnataka, the Bangalore police have issued summons to BJP president JP Nadda and the party’s IT cell chief Amit Malviya. The action was taken in connection with a social media post allegedly threatening members of the SC, ST community for not voting for a particular candidate. Officials said on Wednesday that Nada and Melvia were asked to appear before the investigating officer at the High Grounds police station at 11 a.m. within seven days of receiving the summons.

The move came after the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) filed a writ against Nadda unit president Malviya and BJP Karnataka BY Vijayendra alleging violation of the model code of conduct in the Election Commission and the police. A senior police officer said a case has been registered against the BJP leaders under sections of the Representation of the People Act.

In the complaint, the Congress cited a video posted by the official account of BJP Karnataka Pradesh. He alleged that this account is being operated by Amit Malviya, head of the party’s IT cell, on the orders of BJP national president JP Nadda and state president BY Vijayendra. The Congress claimed that the video showed animated characters of Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The video clip shows SC, ST and OBC (Other Backward Class) communities as ‘eggs’ placed in a nest and also shows Rahul Gandhi placing a bigger egg with the name Muslim Community. It was presented as if money was given to chicks representing the Muslim community, who then trash the SC, ST and OBC communities.
