Guwahati: Indian shuttler Ashmita Haliha of Assam stunned world number 10 Baiyun Zhang to enter the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Masters 2024. Chalia beat Zhang 2-1 in a close match to advance to the next round. Ashmita Halia defeated world number 10, Bayon Jang, at the Malaysian Masters by a margin of 21-19, 16-21, 21-12.

Chalia reached the round of 16 with a straight-sets 21-17 21-16 win over qualifier Sih Yun Lin of China’s Taibe earlier.
This is a big turnaround in the tournament, as Ashmita’s world ranking is 53.
